Univision’s Fashionista Rodner Figueroa and his red carpet life.
Rodner Figueroa made fashion history when he made a pointed remark on legendary actress Lupita Ferrer’s dress during the Premios Lo Nuestro 2004 red carpet event. “Lupita arrived with a dress that had feathers, beads, everything,” remembers Figueroa. “My critique was that she looked like a plucked chicken.” After a confrontation between Figueroa and Ferrer on the show El Gordo y la Flaca days later, Figueroa, with a single comment, earned the title El Fashionista of Univision. “I told her that if at any moment I had offended her, then I would beg her pardon, but as far as the dress goes, not even God could be so forgiving,” he says.
Today with his razor sharp wit, Figueroa hosts all of Univision’s red carpet events including the Latin Grammys. He also hosts Sal y Pimienta, an entertainment gossip show. “I can express my point of view and have a voice that reflects my personality,” he says.
On or off the red carpet what catches this Venezuelan’s eye is simple, “To see a woman who has that je ne sais quoi, when she enters a room and all the men look at her, not because she is showing skin but because she has that certain quality. That is what inspires me.”
