Fernando Fiore weighs in on our list of the hottest players vying for the World Cup.

Nexos Latinos has Messipicked a list of players to watch in the battle to win the World Cup. We asked Fernando Fiore, the face of the World Cup for Univision, to weigh in. “I don’t consider myself a sports analyst,” says Fiore, “I consider myself a person who communicates what the fans are feeling.” As an Argentinian, Fernando puts his money on Argentina to win. “The moment you know who your country is playing against, that’s when the World Cup ball really starts rolling.”

This Argentinian is considered the best soccer player. By the end of 2012, Messi had accumulated an incredible 91 goals for his club and his international team, breaking records. He also broke records when he was named FIFA Ballon d’Or winner for the fourth time in January 2013. “It is difficult to see Messi and not be astounded. To have the ball between his feet at high speeds while trying to avoid rivals and score a goal is very difficult. He is a player technically out of this world,” says Fiore.

Andrés Iniesta is well on his way to becoming one of the finest midfield players of all time, let alone in the world today. He has an impressive trophy haul for club and country as well as an amazing natural ability in his play. Few have achieved more in the game, or made soccer look so easy. “Iniesta is a totally dominating player who has a strategic intelligence to see the game. He is a player froInestiam another planet,” expresses Fiore. Iniesta, after all, was the one who scored the winning goal in the 2010 World Cup against the Netherlands.

Oribe’s two goals brought Olympic gold to Mexico in 2010. In 2013 he was named CONCACAF’s Player of the Year and had such a remarkable run that some would say the forward was like a one-man army keeping Mexico’s hopes alive in World Cup qualifiers. “In Mexico the player who is really idolized right now is Oribe Peralta. As a forward he made the decisive goals that brought Mexico to the World Cup,” says FioRonaldore.

When Ronaldo signed an extension with Real Madrid, he became the highest paid soccer player in the world. Cristiano, with his flashy style, is considered one of the premier forwards in soccer. His awards include a 2008 and 2014 FIFA Ballon d’Or, a 2008 FIFA World Player of the Year and two European Golden Shoes, among others. “Ronaldo is a player with strength and speed. He is an animal when going for a goal,” affirms Fiore.

“If he keeps gettinNeymarg better he will be the best player in the world,” said three-time FIFA Player of the Year and two-time World Cup winner Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima. Fernando agrees. “Neymar is a very good soccer player. He’s young and a genius.” Neymar joined the Santos youth system at age 11 and news of his talent spread quickly throughout Europe. He made his complete professional debut at 17, scored his 100th goal on the day he turned 20 and soon after, in May of 2013, joined FC Barcelona in Spain.
